Sun Fire v120 memory compatibility
Hi,

I recently acquired an old Sun Fire v120 from work. I plan to play around with this at home whilst I'm studying for my SCSA exams. Only problem is it currently has no memory installed. I believe the memory modules required are 168 pin PC133 DIMMs. Unfortunately, the original Sun modules are very expensive to buy, therfore I was wandering if the readily available, cheaper modules designed for desktop PC's would be compatible with this SPARC server?

They aren't. ECC Registered RAM are required.

You might want to get from a third party vendor for a cheaper rate.

Cheers for the pointers guys.

After a little more research I have decided to go for a 1GB module from Global Memory. According to the manufacturer these are compatible with SPARC and only cost around a third of the price of the original Sun ones..
