Help! System not responding!

Hello All!

please help. I have a solaris8 server (NIS client) that lost network connectivity to NIS master server. After restoring connectivity to NIS master server, I can't access the server.

1. The server responds to ping.
2. Telnet -- after it authenticates I do not get a prompt.
3. ssh does not work.
4. At the console, I am able to see console messages but I do not get the prompt.

When you login at the console can you execute commands? I have seen a few rare cases where the PS1 variable is set to nothing therefore no prompt appears. Try a few commands even though there is no prompt. If that works set your PS1 variable in your login script to what you want your prompt to be.

I don't know what the significance of "NIS client" is in relation to your problem, but from the console can you use the escape

Code:
#.

to get back to lom and power off / power on?

Was the server restared recently. Did something change on the server itself recently that you can think of?
