if you put an external usb cd /dvd in there you have to set your devalias. You cannot boot cdrom and expect the external to work because the path to cdrom is still the internal. I would suspect you have a bad internal cdrom in there. If you want to use an external cdrom just do something like this:

Code:
ok probe-scsi-all

ok show-disks
a) /pci@7c0/pci@0/pci@9/SUNW,emlxs@0,1/fp@0,0/disk
b) /pci@7c0/pci@0/pci@9/SUNW,emlxs@0/fp@0,0/disk
c) /pci@7c0/pci@0/pci@2/scsi@0/disk
d) /pci@7c0/pci@0/pci@1/pci@0/usb@0,2/storage@2/disk
e) /pci@780/pci@0/pci@9/SUNW,emlxs@0,1/fp@0,0/disk
f) /pci@780/pci@0/pci@9/SUNW,emlxs@0/fp@0,0/disk
q) NO SELECTION
Enter Selection, q to quit: d

select your usb cd drive here

Code:
/pci@7c0/pci@0/pci@1/pci@0/usb@0,2/storage@2/disk has been selected.
Type ^Y ( Control-Y ) to insert it in the command line.

ok nvalias usbcd ^Y

for creating devalias mydev for /pci@7c0/pci@0/pci@1/pci@0/usb@0,2/storage@2/disk

ok

ok devalias
usbcd /pci@7c0/pci@0/pci@1/pci@0/usb@0,2/storage@2/disk

LiD HA LUN ---Port WWN --- -----Disk Description -----

Boots to ok prompt, can run commands ( devalias etc) software is new from Sun 10/09 I changed the DVD and solved the prior issues, when the installtion is complete it reboots and I get can't open boot device

I have tried 4 different hardrives 1 in each slot 2 in both slots and it always results in the same problem
