solaris 8/9 x windows checking

Hi All,

I got this solaris 8/9. How do I know if x windows is enabled? I usually access this with console only. I want to know if I can run exceed and gui on solaris at the same time.

And how do I know if X11 is what release #?

Thank you for any comment you may add.

Once you have connected to your Solaris box from Exceed and got a terminal window I imagine that confirming that your DISPLAY variable (to your PCs name/IP address followed by :0.0 or if you are using SSH and X11 forwarding then localhost:nn.0 where nn is a 2 digit number from 10 upwards) has been set is the first thing to check, if DISPLAY is not set then set it and then I usually try running something simple like xclock and see if it displays back to the PC?

Without a Solaris box to hand to check I would look at X11 related package versions (# pkginfo -l pkgname) to see if they give a clue as the to release of X11 they include.
