Hi all

In a bit of a pickle here and need some help.

I have a 6800, with 2 SC controllers. I have a terminal concentrator ( TC ) attached to the serial ports. I cant ping / telnet these sc controllers, and when on the TC, I cant connect into them either. I am able to telnet to other servers on the switch / network, so switch is working.

I have rebooted the TC, and looks find, but I cant contact the damn SC controllers, either of them.

I cant get to them via either of the configured domains, like I could on a server with a alom / lom, using scadm / rscadm.

So, help ?? Can I just pull the pull lead out, and reboot one ??

Suggests oh wise fellow SA's ?

If you have a laptop and serial cable, using a comminucation application, such as Tera Term or or HyperTerminal, connect your laptop to the SF6800 SC serial port at rear of SF6800, and check to ensure the port is active on both SC0 (main) & SC1 (spare)

Thanks for the reply. The terminal Concentrator (TC) is like a laptop, as it connects to the serial port, like you would a laptop + serial cable. This allows you two doorways into the SC.

But, both door ways for me arent working. The SC nic isnt allowing me in, and the serial port connection isnt working either. Neither ways respond, or give any errors, just hang. Traceroute shows its get through the various steps on the network, and other aloms using the same switch work.

So, whats left is just for me to power off / on a SC and see if this helps.

MY SF6800 has a MSP / admin server, so reading some docs, I thought that maybe, security wise, that only this host is allowed access, but again no luck.

So, any ideas ?

are you sure you use the right serial cable to connect the sc with the tc?

I should have made my self clear, using a laptop is to confirm the terminal Server is in fact operational. If you can use a laptop or dumb terminal connected directly in the SF6800 serial port you should be provided with a SC prompt.

This is assuming you have power feeding the SF6800 platform. The domains may be down or unconfigured, but you should still be presented with the system control prompt if directly attached to the main SC or slave sc.

So, this damnnnn 6800. I agree, although I do trust the TC, I should plug a laptop in to make sure its not at fault. I will see if I can find a laptop on site. In my older days, we had to use a laptop with a 9 pin serial port, but newer laptops dont have this. Whats the new way of serial;ing into a console port then ?? Do I need certain converters ?

Failing all this, lets assume the SC isnt replying. The 6800 currently has 2 domains configured and running. My idea is to power cycle one SC and see what happens. How does that idea sound ?

Assuming your laptop has a USB port available, you will probable need a USB to RS232 (DB9 or DB25) cable converter kit.

How would you power cycle the SCs, if you can not access either of the system controllers. (A full platform power cycle would need to be instigated) You will have to check both SCs, (via your laptop) if your platform has been setup as per Sun blueprint documentation, or as instructed be Sun SF6800 build documentation. The floating Ip-address associated with the SCs would be setup so a failover from the SC primary to sc slave is triggered.
