DNS Migration

Hello EveryOne,

I need to migrate DNS from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10. I will explain the situation.

I have set up DNS on both Solaris Servers. Now i have Solaris 8 with BIND 9.2.1 with Master-Slave setup (One Master and One Slave).

Now i want to migrate to Solaris 10 with
BIND 9.3.6-P1 version with same Master-Slave set up. Main problem is i want minimal downtime or possibly no downtime.

Could you please suggest me any better idea about this or any tool to do the same.

Eagerly awating for reply.

Please help.

Thanks,

If I were you and you have some spare hardware I'd build a Solaris 10 server on some spare hardware and copy the DNS data over to it and point a test DNS client at it and you'll hopefully find that all is okay, make this new Solaris 10 machine replace the IP address of the slave Solaris 8 machine while you rebuild it and so on, meaning the downtime is only the time to swap the DNS server IP address from one machine to another.

Hi Tony,

Thank you very much for your reply. I dont have spare hardware to follow your suggestion.

Please guide me with some other alternative if there is any.

Thanks,
