3320 Disk Array Configuration for Oracle 10

We have a dual-controller StorEdge 3320 disk array with 5 disks (each 320 MB). Four disks have been set up in a RAID-5 configuration with the remaining disk acting as a hot spare. There is a single logical drive which has been partitioned into 3 slices.

The disk array is to be simultaneously connected to two Sun hosts in order to act as database storage for 2-node Oracle 10g RAC configuration. Each host needs to be able to see 3 disks (i.e. logical drive partitions) on the 3320 and have read/write access to those disks.

The disk array has been cabled in a single-bus configuration (as per Sun StorEdge 3000 Family Installation, Operation, and Service Manual, part # 819-1274-12):

· SCSI jumper cable connected between the “CH0” port and the “SNGL BUS CONF” port.
· “CH3” port goes to one host.
· “CH1” port goes to the other host.

The following is the view from the host side (c4t0d<x> entries). It is the same for both hosts:

We have had some disk access issues with our Oracle RAC configuration, I would like to know whether this is a valid configuration, in particular the LUN and channel mappings.

Does anyone have experience in such architecture that can provide some guidance and/or refer to some useful documents? Sun documents do not give much useful information when it comes to using Oracle using such architecture.

What exactly are the connectivity issues you are having?

What are the outputs for the following commands?

Code:
sccli show-lun
sccli show-channel
show logical-drive
show partition

I can say for sure that your configuration is not a good one for performance, but you have not given enough information to say just how bad it might be.

We are having an issue that Oracle is forcing the host to reboot every once in a while without clear reason in the log. How do you run those commands? When I am connected to the disk array all I see is menu driven tables.

With relation to the reboot problem, the ocssd.log shows:

[ CSSD]2009-03-08 03:18:17.454 [16] >TRACE: clssnmPollingThread: Eviction started for node srt-hlr-b (2), flags 0x000d,

[ CSSD]2009-03-08 03:18:17.454 [18] >TRACE: clssnmDoSyncUpdate: Initiating sync 3

The server reboots and the /var/adm/messages does not show information related to the reboot

I have been trying to install CLI since then. I downloaded the file 2.4_sw_solaris-sparc.zip from the link provided. The document (Sun StorEdge™ 3000 Family 2.4 Software Installation Guide) on page 25 says "Double-click setup.exe and from the InstallShield Wizard window, click Next"; but there is no setup.exe in the zip file. Can you please advise how to install it from 2.4_sw_solaris-sparc.zip? Thanks...
