Consoles gone wild!

I have a Sunfire V890 running solaris 10 that has a weird console problem. In the XWindows environment, everything seems to work fine. However, if I go to command-line mode in multi-user mode or otherwise, my prompt scrolls accross the screen so incontrollably, that the only thing you can do is press the button to get it to respond. Even a Stop-A does not get you to the OK prompt. I am using an Advocent KVM switch and thought it was a KVM problem. However, this happens even when I plug in serially. Has anyone esle ever seen this? A solution would make my week.

Sincerely,

BabyMember!!!

what is on the screen? maybe you have errors and the log goes to console... check /var/adm/messages for errors...
also boot the mashine to single user mode (boot -s from ok prompt) and have a look for the problem.

Is your system under panic mode? Your system is inaccesible remotely right?
If stop+A doesn't work and then power-off the system. If you are not sure about the auto-boot settings, no worries, power up using the power button and monitor your console output. once it goes to the banner message and starts initializing memory, immediately do a stop+a .try booting to single user and run a filesystem check and bring up the server

do you have the correct avocent dongle being used?

The OP said that it happened when it was connected via the serial as well.

Crap, I was hoping to see some hot and sexy consoles with their terminals exposed!

Anyway, try setting your $TERM to vt100 in /etc/profile or ~/.profile
If you're using bash this would work:
export TERM=vt100

You might want to check your keyboard too. I gather from your description that it looks like the enter key is being held down.
