VMware 6.0.4 (Workstation branch)
VMware allows you to run 'virtual machines' inside a Linux host. It is not an emulator. It provides a virtual computer within the host which can boot whichever OS you decide to put on the filesystem image that is used as a harddrive. It will run DOS 6.22, Win 3.1, Win9x, WinNT/2000/XP/2003, Linux, Novell, and more. The only main requirement is a 400 MHz or better machine, along with lots of RAM (128M minimum, 256M recommended). License: Other/Proprietary License with Free Trial Changes:
An arbitrary code execution vulnerability, reported as CVE-2008-2099, was fixed. A host-guest file system (HGFS) vulnerability which could cause a buffer overflow, reported as CVE-2008-2098, was fixed. Support for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista SP1 host and guest operating systems was added. Several kernel module problems on Ubuntu were resolved. Problems with USB ISDN modems were eliminated. Several other bugs were fixed.Image

Solaris 10x86 on VMware Workstation

Is it possible to create metadevices and soft partitions using Solaris Volume Manager on Solaris 10 x86 that is running on VMware Workstation. It would a low cost method to practice extending soft partitions and metadevices. If anyone has an experience with this please share. Regards (1 Reply)

Hi Admins, I just have a doubt on NIS that, is it possible to run NIS on vmware workstation running more than 1 solaris instances. i.e. can we setup one solaris instance as master and others as slaves...?? NAME

       vmsync - vmware kernel module

SYNOPSIS

       modprobe vmsync

DESCRIPTION

       This  is  a  Linux  kernel  module.  It	isn't  backed  by  a  virtual hardware device, so it must be loaded manually. It is depended on by
       vmware-guestd(8), so ideally it should be loaded prior to starting vmware-guestd(8) (though vmware-guestd(8) can function without it). This
       module is used for freezing and thawing the filesystem.

OPTIONS

       vmsync has no options.
