Question Zone Servers Level Upgrade

Hi All,

I am planning to do the Solaris level upgrade from "Solaris 10 1/06 s10s_u1wos_19a" to "Solaris 10 10/09 s10s_u8wos_08a" with 7 Non-global zones on it.....

I have done Level upgrade for Solaris 10 boxes without Non-global zones.....

Can any one let me know, whether it is possible to do the level upgrade with Non-global zones on it Smilie OR more specifically Will the Non-Global zones come up with latest level, once, the upgrade of Global zone is done ??

As default, live upgrade is zone-aware so it will be able to handle the upgrade.
So you can upgrade Solaris 10 with zones, its supported and the zones will be upgraded to.

I am doing the upgrade using DVD and Jumpstart......
So is that possible ?

---------- Post updated 05-30-10 at 03:04 AM ---------- Previous update was 05-29-10 at 04:18 PM ----------

That server has secure path on it and when its about to upgrade its throws the following error

The Solaris Version (Solaris 10) on slice c2t1d0s0 cannot be
upgraded.

A file system listed in the file system table (vfstab) could not
be mounted.

I am able to mount the devices manually but still doesn't understand whats the problem ???

Are you sure you've applied all the relevant patches?

Solaris 10 Live Upgrade Zones Starter Patch Bundle - Patch Corner

Specifically -did you download the LU Zones Starter Patch Bundle and install it? There is also an additional patch to LU that you may want to apply:

Thanks very much for the reply Rowley...
I am not doing Live Upgrade in this case... I am just using the regular method of DVD Upgrade......

LU is the recommended method to use when upgrading systems, particularly ones with non-global zones. I'm not sure if you're going to have much luck doing a straight-up upgrade of such an old release, the error message you are getting seems to suggest that is isn't.

LU is straightforward, and it works. You can do it whilst the server is up and running, and all it requires is a reboot from the new boot environment.

best of luck.

Finally I had to fall back to Live upgrade

1. I have installed the latest patch as per the info doc and also the packages....

root@sesoxvzh01:/var/tmp/liveupgrade# pkginfo | grep -i SUNWlu
application SUNWlucfg Live Upgrade Configuration
application SUNWlur Live Upgrade (root)
application SUNWluu Live Upgrade (usr)
system SUNWluxop Sun Enterprise Network Array firmware and utilities
system SUNWluxopr Sun Enterprise Network Array libraries
application SUNWluzone Live Upgrade (zones support)

But When I am trying to create a new BE I have the following error

root@sesoxvzh01:/# lucreate -A "Solaris 10 09/10 update 8" \
> -o ${OUTPUT_LOG} -l ${ERROR_LOG} \
