How to restore splitted DD file

I backup a file to tape by using "dd", since the size is too large it took two tape for the backup, the question is how to restore the said file? The "dd" doesn't ask me insert next tape while restoration.

Use dd to get the files out from the tapes (make sure you name the second file something different than the first one), then just cat the two files into one big file (this will be the original file that you backed up).

I was thinking this way but not sure if it work since the target file is oracle data file. I will give it a try when I back office.

dd is always not a good option compared to ufsdump. dd will copy empty, redundant and bad sectors that were backed up. simply 100% of whole disk. ufsdump concentrate only on data and is much cleaner.

If you want to restore a particular file , you may do it with tar
#tar xvf /dev/rmt/0 /sample/source.c

If a file is big AND you wan to be prompted for 2nd tape,
#tar xvf cvfM /dev/rmt/0 bigdir/
