grep only one line

plz, how to grep only one line from a file? I have a file with my name inside many lines. How do I get only one line, with my name from the entire file? Thank you so much....

I don't understand.. which line do you want to pull from the file? Or do you just want to check if your name is in the file? If that's it, just use this:
Code:
grep -q yourname yourfile
if [ $? == 0 ]; then
  echo "found my name"
fi

if you just want to print the first line found, regardless if there are other occurances in the file, you can use grep with the -m option.

$ grep -m 1"string to be grepped for" yourfile

Basically, I want to remove the duplicate lines having my username. I cannot use sort by unquie since my username is inside the line as one of the field.
