Okay, the new netmask ffffff00 seems correct.
The netmask changed indeed, but not yet the (less important) broadcast address.
Please verify that you can ping all servers now!
To make the change permanent, please edit /etc/netmasks with a simple text editor e.g. dtpad (or xemacs or vi).
And put a line
If there are other lines that begin with 172.21. then delete them.
After saving the file, test with
Then run
and verify with
This should use the values from /etc/netmasks,
and this time it should become
The "connection closed" is another problem.
It can have several reasons, most likely caused by a special configuration on ServerB.
Maybe
works?
Thanks a lot for all your help in resolving the server errors
Now am able to ping all the servers and was also able to do the datat restoration from the listener server
But I got one more error from the server, the server team wants me to check the below
"is the server speed duplex set to 100/full ? Also try to check the NIC. .is it ok ? ", they received serious errors like :- port error detected. Please help to check the speed and duplex and the NIC health
Kindly let me know how to check on these errors and what are these errors specifying?
Thanks In Advance for your valuable time and suggestions
Duplex setting is adapter-specific.
Don't know about the bcme adapter. Try (as root)
If it works, you get a listing of the adapter parameters. Then, instead of the \? put a parameter related to duplex/speed setting, and you'll get its value.
But, if you managed to copy data in reasonable speed, there is certainly no duplex/speed mismatch. (With a mismatch, it takes at least 10 times longer.)
Another diagnostic command is
and in parallel do some data transfer. The errs columns should stay at 0 (please ignore the 1st line).

This may be a dumb question, but I've been wondering why programs such as ping and traceroute must be setuid? Are there some restrictions which prevent normal users from accessing the world via sockets?
