    echo "$lp start $ln" > lsnr_stop

First file contains commands to start while the other to stop the listener...
-C is not an option. what is the -C supposed to do and I can look at the manpage to find the right option.

Thanks for all the fast responses.

This will work when I get the path and listenername into variables. Certainly when I read back in the file.

The automation tool will have 2 seperate components. One call Stop Listeners which will gather all the listeners and stop them. The other called at a later time to read in the list of paths and listeners from the file and start them. Which that code will help with that part.

Thanks again and for everyone's patience.

I've got it:
Code:
ps -u oracle -oargs |grep tnslsnr | while read Path ListenerName Inherit
do
 echo "$Path $ListenerName"
done

output is:
Code:
/oracle/g01/software/grid/11.2.0.3/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER_SCAN2
/oracle/g01/software/grid/11.2.0.3/bin/tnslsnr LSNR_CXP
/oracle/g01/software/grid/11.2.0.3/bin/tnslsnr LSNR_NDW

From here it's easy to output it to a file and stop the listeners.

Thanks for all the help.
