a.sh run example:

>cat a.sh
#!/bin/sh
printf "Enter your query\n"

read cmd input_file
echo cmd       : $cmd
echo input_file: $input_file
exit

if [ $input_file = "" ]
then
    printf "No input file specified\n"
    exit
fi
if [ $cmd = "summary" ]
then
    awk -f summary.awk $input_file
fi
>a.sh
Enter your query
summary file /o output_file
cmd : summary
input_file: file /o output_file

Yes, this is how works in my script too.
But summary.awk still reports "/o" cannot be opened.

---------- Post updated at 04:02 PM ---------- Previous update was at 04:00 PM ----------

When
Code:
{print}

is my summary.awk,
It prints out the contents of "m".
And then it says "-o" cannot be opened, as if it moved on to the next file in list to be opened.
But why is thinking of opening more than 1 file?

try adding another variable to load the args into:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
printf "Enter your query\n"

read cmd input_file args

if [ "$input_file" = "" ]
then
    printf "No input file specified\n"
    exit
fi
if [ $cmd = "summary" ]
then
    awk -f summary.awk args="$args" $input_file
fi

The issue was with passing all the parameters like that.
The only solution is to use '-v' option to assign Shell variables to awk variables.
awk reads all files that are written after the awk command.

Thank you for your time.
