Hehe... it all boils down to choosing between the two evils then.

1. Do ssh to go directly to bash, but comment out the like that invokes "bash" in the .tcshrc EVERYtime I need to scp, or
2. Just live with logging in to "tcsh" and then typing bash.

ffffffffffuuuuuuuuuu

It's more the sadists that're forcing everyone tcsh by default. That's not standard on any linux system, and people have written long essays on everything wrong with csh in general.

You're logging in with ssh? You could try ssh -t username@system exec sudo bash
