The elfdump option to have a look at the header and see the architecture, use "man elfdump".

I've just checked and my PA-RISC HP 11.11 has elfdump.

Try "elfdump -f libraryname".

Indeed it is PA-RISC

*** ELF Header ***

Class: ELF-64
Data: Big-endian
OS: HP-UX
ABI Version: 1
Type: DYN
Machine: PA-RISC
Version: 1
Entry Addr: 0x0
Program Hdr Offset: 0x40
Section Hdr Offset: 0x2fb10
Flags: Wide-mode
Flags: PA2.0
Elf Hdr Size: 0x40
Program Hdr Size: 0x38
Program Hdr Number: 7
Section Hdr Size: 0x40
Section Hdr Number: 32
Section Hdr String Idx: 31

Meanwhile I am no closer to a solution to my first question of how do I create an ELF library from my c programs?

Are you compiling 64 bit code?

The library you have is for PA-RISC 2.0 in 64 bit mode.

Are you using the following

Code:
CC=cc
CXX=aCC
CFLAGS=+DD64
CXXFLAGS=+DD64

or for gcc

Code:
CC=gcc
CXX=c++
CFLAGS=-mlp64
CXXFLAGS=-mlp64

That tallies with one of my 64 bit PA-RISC libraries

Code:
                *** ELF Header ***

Class:                   ELF-64
Data:                    Big-endian
OS:                      HP-UX
ABI Version:             1
Type:                    DYN
Machine:                 PA-RISC
Version:                 1
Entry Addr:              0x0
Program Hdr Offset:      0x40
Section Hdr Offset:      0x43050
Flags:                   Wide-mode
Flags:                   PA2.0
Elf Hdr Size:            0x40
Program Hdr Size:        0x38
Program Hdr Number:      7
Section Hdr Size:        0x40
Section Hdr Number:      33
Section Hdr String Idx:  32

That was it

That was it. Thanks.

Shared memory for shared library

I am writing a shared library in Linux (but compatible with other UNIXes) and I want to allow multiple instances to share a piece of memory -- 1 byte is enough. What's the "best" way to do this? I want to optimize for speed and portability. Obviously, I'll have to worry about mutual exclusion. (0 Replies)
