on the assumption that you have a bootable OS on your disk drives ...
if you're trying to go into single user mode, you need to run "
boot -s" ... no space between the '-' and the 's' ... if multi-user mode is what you want, just type in 'boot' ...
otherwise, the system doesn't know where you are trying to boot from so it tries to boot off the network ... the address request is so it could find a boot image somewhere that has been setup beforehand ... and if that does not exist, you'll be stuck in a forever loop like what you have seen ...
