Read window Excel sheet to unix
I would like to read data from excel sheet as a input to a shell script.

Myproblem is the excel sheet is in windows. How can I write a shell script to read data from that excel sheet?

How can I do that?.

You can export your excel file in csv format (comma separated value) wich is a text file and all the columns separated by a comma.

Just use that csv file as input file for your script.

You either need to transfer the file to the UNIX box, or give the UNIX box access to the file by exporting a file share and mounting the share in UNIX, if it can.

Can you explain what do you mean bu giving 'UNIX access to file' and 'mounting the access share to file'

Using a usb drive (if your unix server has the driver for it)

or

You can use a NFS client from windows to acces a NFS drive on your unix box

or

Enable ftp server on your unix box then copy the file over via a FTP client on the windows box

or

You may install samba on your unix box and create a windows share on it
