Upon login, you want to put the "cd /wherever" command in a file called:

.bash_login

in your home directory.

Or, .profile

The .bashrc script is sourced in whenever a new bash script is executed.

hmmm.... poor assumption on my part...
i thought it worked similar to ksh ( .profile and $ENV )

I wonder why they have all these init files then ( .bash_login, .bash_profile, .bashrc, .profile ) ???

ah well...

They are for different situations. Read the INVOCATION section of the bash man page for details.

Ah. Very good.

So for bash, the .bash_login essentially works like .profile in ksh,
and the $BASH_ENV file is similar to the ksh $ENV file, invoked
during new bash scripts.

.bashrc is used for interactive shells that are not login shells.
( this would be useful . . .. ?? )

ok that helps.. thanks cfajohnson and quirk..i changed the "profile" file in my /etc directory.. i added my cd command and also a ./script (to execute a bash script) at the very end of the profile file it worked.. now when i open a cygwin terminal the bash script runs directly..
