for FNAME in `find /unixs317/support/scripts -type f -exec grep -il unixs317 {} \;`; do C=`grep -c unixs317 *`; echo "${C}:${FNAME}"; done

I replaced file with *

this is a nice command you have written , however my original code does the same, the problem is still have to prevent capturing file names and count when the count is zero.

example of what you are producing

run_cntl_ap.sql:0
run_cntl_ap.sql_bak19Feb08:0
runsql.ksh:0
selectcode.ksh:1
selectcode.ksh_bak15FEB08:1
selectcode.ksh_bak17JUN08:1
sh.txt:0
sqlnet.log:39

I do not want to filenames and counts when count equal to zero. I want to capture to a file only those whose count is Greater than 0.

That was a typo since I changed the variable names from file to FNAME and forgot to change that one. Changing it to * will not help at all Smilie

Corrected version:
Code:
for FNAME in `find . -type f -exec grep -il yo {} \;`; do C=`grep -c yo ${FNAME}`; echo "${C}:${FNAME}" >> OUTFILE.OUT; done

It works and should also work with your limited grep as you can see here:
Code:
root@isau02:/data/tmp/testfeld> ls
a.txt b.txt c.txt
root@isau02:/data/tmp/testfeld> cat a.txt
yo
root@isau02:/data/tmp/testfeld> cat b.txt
root@isau02:/data/tmp/testfeld> cat c.txt
yo
root@isau02:/data/tmp/testfeld> for FNAME in `find . -type f -exec grep -il yo {} \;`; do C=`grep -c yo $file`; echo "${C}:${FNAME}" >> OUTFILE.OUT; done
root@isau02:/data/tmp/testfeld> cat OUTFILE.OUT
1:./c.txt
1:./a.txt

File b.txt where is no match isn't listed at all, not with a zero or anything.
