problem is tar
i have some 685 files in my directory.Below the count:

Code:
find . -name "CurrentCollectorMeterReadBackup_2009*" -exec ls -ltr {} \; | wc -l

685

i want to tar them but it is telling me arg list too long. how to tar all this files in one shot
Code:
tar -cvf - -L /ednadtu3/u01/pipe/naveed/class/dir1/CurrentCollectorMeterReadBackup_2009*
ksh: /usr/bin/tar: arg list too long

It should be possible to pipe find filenames into tar.
Code:
find .... | tar cfT - -

Another solution is to link all your files to a temporary subdirectory, then tar the directory:
Code:
mkdir tmp.$$
find . -name "CurrentCollectorMeterReadBackup_2009*" -exec ln "{}" "tmp.$$/{}" ";"
tar cCf tmp.$$ - .
