This should forward the count in fCOUNT to a.log. When the a.log was created there was no number into that. The number comes to fCOUNT. When the log file is scanned after few minutes , this fCOUNT will be considered as the previous count and the fresh count will be taken in fCOUNT.

That is why I am trying to move fCOUNT to a.log

$(fCOUNT) > a.log

is trying executing ['()'] the content of a variable 'fCOUNT' and redirecting the standard output of the execution to a file 'a.log'.

I think you meant this:

I think , it will move the last fCOUNT to a.log.

no, it will not "move" anything - you will get 'command not found'.
