I think you need to re-read my last post more carefully and understand it first.
If you try running the previously posted code in the way you're doing it now - no progress will be made.
Good luck!

I understood your point and changed the script as follows:

#! /usr/bin/nawk -f
first_file=$1
second_file=$2
BEGIN {
FS="@@"
}

FNR==NR {a[$1]; next}

!($1 in a)
' $first_file $second_file

But still i am getting errors as follows:
/usr/xpg4/bin/awk: file "/home/odyssey/f091018/cmp.awk": line 11: syntax error Context is:
>>> #nawk -F'@@' '
>>> FNR==NR {a[$1]; next}
>>>
>>> !($1 in a)
>>> ' <<<

Do i need to remove ' $first_file $second_file from the standalone script???
Please guide me ...

Thanks alot.

THough i bugged you alot but finally i understood your point.
Please correct me in below understanding if i am wrong.

I need to create a standalone script if i want it to run alone.

and in case if i want it to be called from another script then i need a wrapper script.

This is the wrapper version

#! /usr/bin/nawk -f
BEGIN {
FS="@@"
}
#nawk -F'@@' '
FNR==NR {a[$1]; next}

!($1 in a)

and below is the standalone version

#! /bin/sh
first_file=$1
second_file=$2
nawk -F'@@' '
FNR==NR {a[$1]; next}

!($1 in a)
' $first_file $second_file

And following is the way to call a wrapper version script from a wrapper script
/usr/xpg4/bin/awk -f /home/odyssey/f091018/cmp.awk /tmp/set4 /tmp/set5

Please correct me wherever i wrote wrong.

My script is running anyway .... hurrah !!!
Thanks alot for your patience !!!!

No, you got it wrong!

This is a standalone awk script:
cmp.awk:
Code:
#! /usr/bin/nawk -f
BEGIN {
   FS="@@"
}

FNR==NR {a[$1]; next}

!($1 in a)

to be called like so from the command line:
Code:
nawk -f cmp.awk /tmp/set5 /tmp/set4

OR
like so if you make 'cmp/awk' executable:
Code:
cmp.awk /tmp/set5 /tmp/set4

And this is a shell wrapper for the 'standalone' awk script:
cmp.sh:
Code:
#! /bin/sh
first_file=$1
second_file=$2
nawk -f /path2awkscript/cmp.awk $second_file $first_file

to be called like so from the command line:
Code:
cmp.sh /tmp/set4 /tmp/set5

Pay attention: the SECOND file should appear FIRST on the invocation line of the 'awk' script.

Thanks . Got your point.
