Hi ,

The above script is being developed to compare the previous count of errors with the current count of errors in the log file. But , this is giving a lot of syntax errors. Kindly provide your expert advice on this .

Thanks & Regards

that's because of bad command substitution plus your expression shouldn't have any spaces on both sides of the operator...
Code:
iCOUNT = WC -l COUNTFILE.log

should be
Code:
iCOUNT=`WC -l COUNTFILE.log`

Code:
fCOUNT = grep ERROR sample_file.log | wc -l

should be
Code:
fCOUNT=`grep ERROR sample_file.log | wc -l`

try to make these corrections and you're good to go.

When posting code, please put it inside [CODE] tags.

Unless you are using a very old version of find, it doesn't fail if there are no matching files.

(And there must be a space after the command.)

The script is composed almost entirely of syntax errors. You need to read a very basic tutorial on shell scripting.

Read about variable assignments and command substitution.

Note that commands are case sensitive (there is no command called WC).
