Hi
In unix able to connect to oracle database and create table ,when rerun ,if table exist ,truncate that table.Any idea how to do that

sqlplus -s datadmin/password <<EOF

create table xx(col1 number,
                 col2...
                    );

exit;
EOF



I tried this way ,its throughing error

sqlplus -s datadmin/password <<EOF


select table_name from user_tables where table_name='xx';
$#
if [$# -eq 0 ] ; then 

truncate table xx;
else
create table xx(col1 number,
                 col2...
                    );

end if;
exit;
EOF

Looks to me you are trying to combine a shell command with an sql command. If you run sqlplus -s dataamdin/password manually you would only select the table first. Then you should check the status of the command. So you would put the << EOF before the $#. Then if the command was successful then you would run another sqlplus -s command with truncate command then the << EOF. Else you would run a different sqlplus -s command can create the table << EOF. If you run the sqlplus command manually only those thing you type until quit can be accepted by the sqlplus command. sqlplus doesn't know about ?# nor if commands in shell form. So try using multiple sqlplus commands instead.
