SED problem
Hello,

I'm new on this forum and I have the following question.

I have created a txt file with the svn log command and the result is like this:

M /en/css/_site.css
M /assets/en/flash/pricing/landing/swf/bpo.swf
M /assets/en/flash/pricing/landing/xml/landingPage.xml.jsp

Now I need to remove the last part i.e. 'landingPage.xml.jsp'

I try to used the command sed like this

sed 's/\.[^.]*$//' log2.txt > log3.txt

But is removing only the file extension

M /en/css/_site
M /assets/en/flash/pricing/landing/swf/bpo
M /assets/en/flash/pricing/landing/xml/landingPage.xml

So I try to updated:

sed 's/\/*[^.]\.[^.]*$//' log2.txt > log3.txt

But the result is

M /en/css/_sit
M /assets/en/flash/pricing/landing/swf/bp
M /assets/en/flash/pricing/landing/xml/landingPage.xm

Do you know how can I remove the last part of the path?

Hi,

one way is:

sed 's!/[^/]*$!!' file

which will replaced everything from the / to the lineend by nothing.

You can use basename if it's installed on your system.

Another one with sed:

sed 's!.*/!!'
