I need to run a set of commands on a remote machine using ssh. it should also collect output and return status of each command. Can someone help me how to do this?

It is no problem to run commands via ssh and catch the output. There are plenty of such threads here in the forum. You can use the search function for that.
Afaik, it is not possible to catch the return codes of remote commands, because $? will catch the last local return code of any command started in your local shell.
But maybe someone else has an idea how handle this, idk.

Edit:
Seems to depends on ssh version, not sure though. Some ssh clients and demons send back the exit code from the remote command. Checked that with several boxes. Maybe it's just an option in the ssh_config or sshd_config, not sure though.
