Try this:

Code:
awk '/Wed Nov 9/ { print ; getline; print; while (getline && $0 != "") print ; print }' inputfile > outputfile

This fairly lazy solution assumes that there is always a blank line after the paragraph that follows the date required.

no output file

Not even an empty one?

yup no output or empty file

Strange, it seems to work fine for me:

Code:
$ cat inputfile
Wed Nov 9

11111111111111
22222222222222
33333333333333

Thu Nov 10
aaaaaaaaaaaa
bbbbbbbbbbbbbb
ccccccccccccccc

Wed Nov 9

44444444444
55555555555
aaaaaaaaaaa

Wed Nov 9
sdasdsadasda
asdsadsadads
$ awk '/Wed Nov 9/ { print ; getline; print; while (getline && $0 != "") print ; print }' inputfile
Wed Nov 9

11111111111111
22222222222222
33333333333333

Wed Nov 9

44444444444
55555555555
aaaaaaaaaaa

Wed Nov 9
sdasdsadasda
asdsadsadads
