I would like to read the file and if $1 matches then take $3 (on even line) from $2 (on odd line) and save the result.
I have failed to achieve my goal and have decided to ask for help.

Can you please provide us more details. So that we can help you in a better way.

From where you are comparing??
If you any input files??

Output I would like is
S18 -2310
S19 -2313
S20 -2456

Which is the first filed and then then if that first field matches between two lines then it is the third field of the second line of S18 minus the second field of the first line of S18.
Hope that explains where I'm trying to get to
