How do I delete all files that contain specific text?
Hi all,

I want to remove the files from a folder whcih contain a specific text in it.
eg:

If i have the files like
xxxx.NAME.adadd.ajfaj.kjfha
agsg.NAME.dfshd.djsh.sdjhf
asgd.NAME2.sdhj.djhf.sjdhf
shdd.NAME2.dhse.tywe.eyio

How to remove the files which contain the pattern "NAME" and "NAME2"

Try this:

ls -1 | awk -F"." '$2=="NAME" || $2=="NAME2"{print "rm " $0}'

If you get the desired output, pipe the output to sh to delete the files:

ls -1 | awk -F"." '$2=="NAME" || $2=="NAME2"{print "rm " $0}' | sh

can that command be bit simple...
am not able to understand how the above command works..

It is just simple, ls -1 gives a list of the files of the current directory and the output is piped to awk.

With -F"." we define a dot as field separator and this command prints "rm " and the filename if the 2nd field is "NAME" or "NAME2":
