Sed: command garbled :s/
Hi,

I really need some help, I am using a very basic script to proess a text file. This script has been used many times but all of a sudden all on it's own it's stopped working.

The line in the script is:
sed 's/
//g' $ORGFILE > $NEWFILE

and the error is Sed: command garbled :s/

All I am trying to do is remove lines from the txt file so that when I print the text is in the right place on the paper.

This used to be for Solaris 8 but recently we have upgraded to Solaris 10.

Any help appreciated as I have users screaming at me to get this done.

Try put a backslash before the newline. If you want to remove newlines, tr -d '\012' <$ORGFILE is probably more approprate, though.

Thank you for your reply, I have tried adding the backslash but is still says sed command garbled.

Also I have tried the other command you offered me, this works but is not quite the result I need to achieve.

This command completely removes all the lines and the spaces in between, where as what I need to achieve is the formatting, alignment and indents of all the text the same, but with the lines in between deleted.

Is there any other help you can give me?

You mean remove empty lines?
