This is weird, post the output this script:

#!/bin/sh

db2 "export to ACTIONS.dat of del select * from ACTIONS" |grep "Number of rows exported" | awk '{print $5}'

NUMBER=`db2 "export to ACTIONS.dat of del select * from ACTIONS" |grep "Number of rows exported" | awk '{print $5}'`

echo "Value of NUMBER : ${NUMBER}"

# 16

That means that there's something wrong with the command:

It doesn't give any output to assign to the variable.

Try something as simple as:

#!/usr/bin/sh
NUMBER=`ls -l| wc -l`
echo $NUMBER

This will help to verify if there's a problem with your syntax


Then, substitute in the first part of the code

#!/usr/bin/sh
NUMBER=`db2 "export to ACTIONS.dat of del select * from ACTIONS"`
echo $NUMBER

and go from there....

when I put them one by one,first line will print "238"
second line print nothing
third line print Value of "NUMBER :"
but when I put them all together in a t1.sh,when i run this t1.sh,I get only "Value of NUMBER :"
this is not correct,where is the number 238 in file calling?

find another way to extract the number,(count the exported file).
I think the problems here is that we are using db2 command,this is a IBM db2 cli command.when i change the "db2" to a "echo" command,everything works fine.
