Confusing me......!!!!!!

Hiii... There...

I am making a Script in which I am taking the value of a variable "var"
through key board.
But I want, if no values are supplied for "var" for more than 5 seconds then script shuld automatically exit.Script is as follow :

#cat abc

#!/bin/bash
echo "Enter Your Choice : "
read var
echo $var

In above Script if value of "var" is not entered for more than 5 Seconds
then it should exit and come to Prompt.
So, how can I achive this.........

Test if $var exist
Code:
#!/bin/bash
echo "Enter Your Choice : "
read var
test -z $var && exit
echo $var

Hi danmero...

Above cods are not working......

System is Executing only 2 lines of the Script, ie
1. echo "Enter Your Choice : " and
2. read var.

And after that system is not executing the 3rd line ie
test -z $var && exit rather it is still waiting for the value.

Kindly Help......

You're looking for an alarm() clock implementation in bash scripting. There's a program that allows you to set a timeout for a script's execution -- timelimit
