Script Portability
Hi,

I am writing a BASH shell script for a client. I am using BASH on a Macintosh Powerbook G4 running Leopard. My client will be using BASH on a PC running Ubuntu. My questions all revolve around making my script portable so that it will run on his machine.

- Do I need to get any other information about his system, other than the fact he is using Ubuntu?

- In general how do you make a script portable between different systems running the same shell. Specifically, although we are both running BASH, I am using Unix and he is using Linux (as I understand it, please correct me).

- My script is not too complex and I don't use that many options. Are there any specific things to look out for?

i can tell you one thing if your script doesnot contain any fancy command it should work in any BASH and any OS

Hi,

Thank you. Perhaps the best thing I can do is run it on his machine and see what happens.
