Shell Programming and Scripting

I have a file where i have files name with absolute path.
Ex: files.dat and contents are:
/root/xy/yz/zz/abc.txt
/root/xx/yy/zz/ac.txt
/root/xz/yz/zx/bc.txt
/root/xy/yz/zx/abcd.txt

now i want to create all above files(dummy files and can be 0 byte). i thought of using touch but it doesn't create directory.

i thought of taking path and create dir mkdir -p <path> and then touch but how to get that path? i know its easy just extract string till last "/" character but how?

you mean you want to read the file line by line???
and put each line in path and write mkdir -p $path??

yes. want to write mkdir -p $path and then touch that file name

then use
while read line
do
mkdir -p $line
done < yourfile

but it will create a directory as my filename.
for ex: i want to create dire "/root/xy/yz/zz/" and a file in that named"abc.txt" and it will create directory as "abc.txt"
am i correct or i got u wrong?

do you have dirname or basename command??
