how to remove "../.. from a path"
My input path can be either

somepath (/tmp/life )
or
../../somepath ( ../../tmp/life )

Can someone help me help me with script to always extract "somepath" on both inputs

sed -n '/\tmp\/life/p' filename

let me be more elaborate
i have a variable (say X)which stores some path, say PATH
now PATH can be of the type
../../somepath
or
somepath


NOw i have to extract just somepath.

Input Values ------------------------> Expected Output

/tmp/this --------------> /tmp/this
../../usr/kitty ---------------> /usr/kitty
/usr/kitty/ ---------------> /usr/kitty
../../var/any/thing/goes --------------> /var/any/thing/goes

Please help me

that means every time your somepath changes??
can yo store that somepath in some variable
if so sote it in var and use
sed -n '/"${var}"/p'

how do i extract somepath from "../../somepath"

"find . -printf" without prepended "." path? Getting path to current working directory?
