Actually lets suppose i have directory that have 100 of sub-directories and each directory will have 100 of files or subdirectories, let suppose if i will delete them with rm -rf directory/ obviously it take around 20 minutes rough time estamiting, i just want to know the way how to delete that directory that size is bigger than 5GB is it possibe that we can delete in one minute or 5 minute.

Thanks,
Bash

If you're using ext3 filesystem, you can add dir_index option (if you're not already using it) through tune2fs. This might speed things up.

man tune2fs advises tune2fs -O dir_index /dev/your_root_dev and then e2fsck -D /dev/your_root_dev. Use at your own risk.

The fastest is to put this dir on a seperate filesystem. recreating the filesystem is done within seconds.
