Is it until null or while null? Anyways, you can check if a variable i is null using condition

Hi,

for first query..

cat test.txt
penchal/abxdef
xyz/asd//uvtbre


cat test.txt | tr "/" "\n"
penchal
abxdef
xyz
asd

uvtbre


for the second query u can use [ !-n $i ] condition.
or even [ -z $i ]
# 4

one more solution for the first one

awk '{ gsub(/\//,"\n")}1' test.txt
