Code:
$min = $_ if ($_ < $min);
$max = $_ if ($_ > $max);

Run that in a loop and print out the $min and $max values when you run out of input.

This may help you as well:

#!/usr/bin/perl

print "enter four numbers on separate lines.\n";
print "press ctrl-d when finished.\n";

@numbers_unsorted = <>;

@numbers_sorted = sort { $a <=> $b } @numbers_unsorted;

print "\n";

foreach(@numbers_sorted) {
chomp;
print "$_ ";
}

print "\n";

List::Util has the "max" and "min" functions that you can use to directly find the maximum and minimum given a list of numbers. It's better not to reinvent the wheel if these functionalities are taken care of by a core module available in all Perl installations.
