Depending on what you're trying to do, you can use the || or && operator.

Examples:

The && operator only executes the second command if the first one exists with a zero status.
Code:
myCommand && echo "This worked!"

The || operator only executes the second command if the first one exists with a non-zero status.
Code:
myCommand || echo "This broke!"

You can probably get fancier with some kind of shell script "if" statement. Please provide more detail about what you want to do, if this doesn't help.

Well i am not quite clear what u meant-

- The java prg does a series of things like db updates etc..
- It is deployed on unix server.
- From the server i run a script that calls the main class of java prg.
- This main class is something like this

public static void main(String args[]) {
Manager manager = new Manager ();
boolean status = Manager .processABC();
if (status){
System.out.println("sucessful");
System.exit(0);
}
else
System.exit(1);
}

Now i need to check the value of exit in unix script

This works:

Code:
#!/usr/bin/env bash

runMyProgram

if [ "$?" -ne 0 ]
then
    echo "bad"
else
    echo "good"
fi

Note: The $? variable is set to the exit status of the last command executed. So if you do anything after that and before the if, then you will skew the results.
