I'm not asking for you to do my work for me - just how do I compare a list of codes in one file to each line in another. I can do it in VBS - almost - but would prefer a shell script instead and run it on my Linux server.

No worries. I apologize if my wording came off as harsh. I was mainly frustrated at the lack of any examples of before and after lines, despite my repeated request. That makes it a lot harder to provide exactly what you want. So I gave you a vanilla script that you can tweak to your specifications. I hope you get it working.

If you get stuck, please post your updated code and sample input files, along with the exact output you expect from the sample input files.
