TOP out put to a file

How to copy a top output to some file...! i am getting a blank data only

top << file1
# 2

Use command top > file1.
Then use cntrl+c to terminate the command.File1 would contain the output of top.

There are a number of different versions of top out there. If your version accepts the -b and -n options, then you can do the following:

top -b -n 1 > logfile

Quote:
-b : Batch mode operation
Starts top in 'Batch mode', which could be useful for sending out-
put from top to other programs or to a file. In this mode, top
will not accept input and runs until the iterations limit you've
set with the '-n' command-line option or until killed.

:mad: I did this the other day but one of my support personnel removed my history so i could call it back up to remeber the exact command since i am air-headed at times.
