Lock a file from being deleted?
Hi

In my script, users have the option to delete files from a directory, however, I don't want them to be able to delete the automatically generated log file.

Is there anyway to lock a file from being deleted?

Note: The file can't be read only as it has to be written to quite frequently.

this may seem a little trivial but what if you chown the files to root and run the script as the owner of all the other files.

See the "t" option is chmod.

No idea if this has been already solved, but if not.. here's the hint..

change the owner of the files to root.For all other users , to write to the file, scripts should be executed using the "Sudo" command.

You may also need to add the names of the scripts which would be used for writing in the files to the sudoers file.
