I want to create a Korn shell script to keep a server ON all the time unless I want to bring it down for major maintenance.
I am thinking of having a file which will have a variable holding a status ON or OFF
Write a script to get the variable value ON/OFF. If it is ON, it executes the server start-up procedure and keeps it there. If I bring the server down, it should come back up again as the variable passed to the script is ON (something similar to RESTART of the desktop).
When I want the server to remain down, I will change the variable in other file to OFF and then bring the server down so, it will stay down. Once I am ready, I can execute the script to bring server up and keep it up.
Thank you in advance for any help.
