How to get a paricular value from a file

Hi All,

I have a file with content

SQL*Plus: Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production on Tue Mar 4 07:53:30 2008

(c) Copyright 2000 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.


Connected to:
Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.4.0 - Production
With the Partitioning option
JServer Release 8.1.7.4.0 - Production

SQL> SQL>
O

SQL> Disconnected from Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.4.0 - Production
With the Partitioning option
JServer Release 8.1.7.4.0 - Production

How can i get the value 'O' after 'SQL>' into a variable by using the command.
Please suggest me

why not try this, not a tested code though :

value=`cat $filename | | grep -A1 "SQL>" | grep -v "SQL>"`
# 3

This should give you the expected output with awk:

var=`awk '/SQL> SQL>/{getline;print;exit}' file`
