get sysname with getline in awk

I am having issues getting this working. I am trying to get the system name and print it out in a awk script.

I looked and looked, it looks like my syntax is correct but it is not working. What am I overlooking??

Code:
BEGIN {
      sys1 = "system( "uname -n" )"
      "sys1" | getline sys
      close("sys1")
       }
print sys

The following is one way of doing it

Code:
#!/usr/bin/awk -f

BEGIN {
    "uname -n" | getline sys
    close("uname -n")
    print sys
}

thanks A LOT, I struggled with the syntax on this one. I didn't know you could call shell commands that way in awk. I thought you had to use the system function.

thanks again for your time.
