Error unary operator error

i have a script

while [ "$date1" != "$date2" ] && [ "$date !> "$date2"
do
..
done

Pls can you help.

is this a valid opertor: ' !>'

Why not just use '<'

and obviously there is a missing ] at the end.

Oops sorry typo..i meant ..pls read it as follows

while [ "$date1" != "$date2" ] && [ "$date > "$date2" ] ---this is giving error
do
..
done

basically i want to check is do while date1 is not equal to date2
or
date1 is greater than date2 ..exit the loop
