Tcpdump in cron

I wrote a short BASH script to run tcpdump and save the output to a log file for when I'm away from my desk. The script runs fine normally, but fails to start in cron. Any ideas?

#!/bin/bash
today=`date +%Y%m%d`
tcpdump -i eth0 -s 1500 -w ${today}.cap &
exit

Any errors captured by cron? Which user did you use with cron? root?

I ran cron as root. How do I read cron errors?

Not sure about your exact version of cron or your configuration. I receive cron errors by mail in the root mailbox. So it's usually easy to tell what the problem is.

Is the cron aware of the absolute path of the bin tcpdump.

I did give cron an absolute path....

In regards to your previous post, I have fcrontab, but I'm not sure of the version.
