Network Sed Again, Help !!!!!!!!!!!!

Every once in a while, i come across sed Smilie and usually get stuck Smilie.

Can someone please rescue me? I want the data from 18:30 to the line before 18:31. Timestamp may vary so need a generic solution.

Code:
sed "/18:31/,$ d" filename

If you have time 18:31 with date 16 then use this
Code:
sed "/17.*18:31/,$ d" filename

Apologies, i was not clear in describing my problem.

I want all the line starting from 18:mm to line before 18:mm. Here all the minute fields may change so i can't hardcode anything.

Thanks for your help.

Kamitsin,
As for not wanting to hardcode, the solution is either:
1) Passing the value as line parameter:
Code:
<your_shell> 18

In your shell:
Code:
mHour=$1

2) Prompting for it:
Code:
echo 'Enter hour: '
read mHour

3) Placing it in a file for reading:
Code:
mHour=`cat <parm_file>`     ### parm_file has only one record

After you set the value of variable "mHour":
Code:
sed -n "/ ${mHour}:/p" <input_file>

Note the space before "mHour" and the ":" after it.

Hi

i think you should use a shell script with command-line args

as follow(h.sh):

first=18:$1
second=18:$2
sed -n "/$first/,/$second/{
p
}" filename

then exec as:

sh h.sh 30 31

Thanks folks but i can't use command line arguments. I thought sed can do this for me but i guess i will have to look for other options to sort this out.

Anyways thanks for your feedback.

Kamitsin,
As I said above, you have three options to enter a variable
in a program -- command line argument is only one of them.
